Extending their winning streak to ten matches in a row, the Ohio Bobcats Volleyball team (15-8, 10-1 MAC) defeated their archrival, the Miami Redhawks (8-16, 3-8 MAC), 3-1 in tonight’s series.
The Bobcats have now won seven matches in a row against the Redhawks. With tonight’s victory the Bobcat’s also helped to secure their place in the MAC tournament and maintain their first place spot in the league.
“We are starting to play better as a team. We have a lot of underclassmen playing, so it’s been a time to get to know each other better on the court,” Senior Faith Robins said.
During tonight’s match, the annual Dig Pink Night to raise money for Breast Cancer awareness drew in a large crowd of spectators and helped the Bobcats to take an early 7-0 lead in the first set.
After a few quick timeouts from Miami, the Redhawks were able to narrow the deficit, but the Bobcats held onto the lead winning the set 25-21.
The Redhawks began stronger in the second set and after a series of Bobcat errors were able to win 25-15, tying the series at one game each.
“Miami was doing a good job of stopping our middles and lefts, so we were going to have to get at least one of those going to have a chance to be successful in the third set,” Coach Theis said.
Both Ohio and Miami seemed to settle down going into the third set, evening out the playing field and resulting in a closer match. The Bobcats pulled through with a victory however, taking set three 25-15.
The Bobcats secured their victory in the forth set winning 25-22 and look to take on Bowling Green, the other MAC East Conference leader, tomorrow night.
“It will be a game for first place, but you know we still have five matches left, and everybody in the MAC East is playing way better then they were in the first time around. It’s going to be a battle,” Coach Theis said.
