The Ohio women’s soccer team (5-3-3, 1-1-1 MAC) traveled to Oxford Friday afternoon and drew against the defending MAC champion and rival Miami Redhawks (4-6-1, 1-1-1 MAC). The game ended in a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes of play.
Freshman Alexis Milesky put the Bobcats on the board in the 18th minute with a strike from beyond the 18’ line. Miami’s Jess Bronke equalized for the Redhawks in the 37th minute when she finished off a cross from Jenna Weiner.
Senior goalkeeper Mattie Liston kept Miami off the scoreboard for the rest of the match with a total of 10 saves, a season high for her. Miami doubled Ohio’s shot total of 11 with 22, but Liston came up big for the Bobcats. The Redhawks outshot Ohio eight to one in extra time, but were not able to capitalize on their opportunities.
Sophomore Holly Harris led the Bobcats offensive attack with four shots in the match.
Ohio coach Aaron Rodgers was satisfied with his team’s effort. “We don’t go into any games to tie. We go into games to win, but we made some good steps today to grind out a result and grow as a team,” said Rodgers.
The Bobcats return to action on Sunday at 1:00, taking on Ball State (7-3-1, 2-1-0 MAC) in Muncie.
