Ohio University Field Hockey (7-10) saw their season end Friday afternoon losing 2-1 to Miami (OH) University (11-9) in the MAC semifinals.
Being only two years removed since their last championship title, two seed Ohio entered the MAC tournament boasting three players with All-MAC honors, including 2013 MAC Player of the Year Luli Gomez Teruel. Joining her on the first team was fellow senior and three-time All-MAC selection Jessica Jue. Sophomore Adele Sammons gained second team honors for the first time in her young promising career.
When the Bobcats took the field against the RedHawks, they struck quickly, scoring 11:19 into the game. Jue got her seventh score of the season with an assist from Andrea Biegalski. With goalkeeper Brittany Walker’s four saves in the first half, the Bobcats entered the half with a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, it was Miami striking early and often. Unable to capitalize on its eight shots in the first half, Miami would score on 39 and 43 minutes erasing Ohio’s lead. Ohio’s green card penalty in the 36th minute, followed by a yellow card penalty six seconds Miami’s first score would be the difference in the second half. Though Ohio would outshoot Miami 9-4 in the second half and held a 8-7 edge in penalty corners for the game, Ohio was unable to capitalize on their opportunities and saw their season come to a close.
