After a solid 3-1 start, the Lady Bobcats were on the ropes after back-to-back losses too UIC and Maryland. Now, the Green and White had to travel to Cleveland to take on Cleveland State.
The losing streak would be extended to three as Ohio couldn’t overcome a late rally, falling 76-64.
Ohio was able to jump out to an early five-point lead before Cleveland State burned their first timeout of the half. After extending that lead to nine, Cleveland State chipped away at the lead until it was all tied up at 30 each.
Cori Coleman’s three-pointer with just over a minute left was the last scoring for the first half as Cleveland State took a two point lead into the locker room.
The second half went back and forth after the score was all tied at 42 even. Cleveland State opened up a five-point lead and continued to trade blows with Ohio as they led by four with just over five minutes remaining.
A Destini Cooper layup for Ohio cut the deficit, but it would be the last points Ohio could manage. Down the stretch, Cleveland State made all six free throw attempts to put away Ohio by a final of 76-64.
In a losing effort for Ohio, three players: Kat Yelle (10), Quiera Lampkins (15) and Mariah Byard (16) all scored in double digits while Lampkins put up a double-double with 11 rebounds.
-Cleveland State was able to get to the free throw line 25 times as Ohio was only able to manage 12 attempts from the charity stripe.
-Ohio launched 28 balls from beyond the arch and converted seven while Cleveland State was a solid 11-30 from 3.
-Haley Schmitt dominated for Cleveland State as she shot just under 50 percent from the field and put up a double-double with 20 points and 10 boards.
-Ohio fell by double digits despite out rebounding Cleveland State 51-29.
Now sitting at a 3-4 record, Ohio will have nine days to prepare for a showdown with Notre Dame College in the convo on December 14th.
