A student-fan’s perspective of Ohio’s matchup with the Zips
I put my favorites in italics to assist your scrolling:
(6:32 p.m.): I made it to the Q in time!
(18:40, 1st): 3rd row seats behind the basket near Ohio’s bench. Too clutch! JIM CHRISTIAN HAD A BLAZER ON TONIGHT. I REPEAT, JIM CHRISTIAN HAD ON A BLAZER. He took it off, but this makes me wonder… Jim, are you reading this?
(16:34, 1st): Bobcats are sporting the blackout jerseys tonight. Say what you want about Russell, they’re sick.
(14:52, 1st): Kellogg and N’dour feeling it early. Both have four points at the first media timeout. Ohio up 13-12.
(14:31, 1st): Akron’s fans outnumber Ohio’s, but the margin isn’t much. Quality showing by Bobcat Nation.
(14:20, 1st): Ricardo Johnson is uniform tonight on the Ohio bench. He tweeted yesterday that his rehab was going well. We’ll see if he takes the court.
(12:52, 1st): Akron doesn’t seem to care much about Barbasol’s sponsorship of the tournament. All five of their players on the court right now have facial hair, including a mean mustache by McAdams.
(11:54): Ohio leads 18-14. Good shooting start by the ‘Cats.
(11:09, 1st): Bobcats seem to have an edge on the glass. Four offensive rebounds already.
(9:30, 1st): Treadwell has had to shoot all of his free throws into the eyes of the 110. He’s 1 for 5 so far from the line.
(8:16, 1st): Despite that, Treadwell has seven points to lead all scorers right now.
(7:55, 1st): Bobcats turning the ball over far too much. Three in the last stretch. ‘Cats still lead, 22-19.
(7:06, 1st): Bean WIllis just hit his third three. He’s been on fire lately, well that’s a understatment.
(5:01, 1st): I still don’t understand how “Zip” translates to a kangaroo mascot.
(3:58, 1st): This game’s being played around the rim. Campbell and N’dour each have six for Ohio. Treadwell with eight for Akron.
(3:54, 1st): I just can’t get over Reggie McAdams’ mustache. I mean this thing is
(2:38, 1st): Ohio opens up a 10 point lead, 34-24. They’re just outworking Akron right now.
(1:36, 1st): Bobcats are struggling to find an answer for Treadwell. He has 10 points already and should have many more.
(Half): Green & White up 38-33. Willis and Kellogg both have nine points to lead the ‘Cats.
(Half): Ohio holds the rebounding edge, 18-10. Every Bobcat who has touched the ball has a board.
(Half): Tournament awkwardness: Akron just had to wait for a solid minute after running onto the court for warm-up basketballs to be given to them.
(20:00, 2nd): Second half about to begin. N’dour getting the start over Campbell this half. His back must be feeling well.
(17:28, 2nd): Quincy Diggs brought Akron within two with five points right away, but N’dour answered with a three. 43-38.
(16:10, 2nd): Akron has the momentum. Their fans can feel it and so can the players. Ohio still up two, 45-43. Zips at the line with a chance to tie it up.
(14:22, 2nd): Setty hit a three, but Akron answered. 50-46 ‘Cats.
(11:58, 2nd): 56-51, Ohio leads Akron. Things are getting a little more physical here in C-town. N’dour has 11, Kellogg has 12.
(10:03, 2nd): Akron has stepped up the on-ball pressure, but Ohio has dealt with it well so far. Great ball movement.
(9:44, 2nd): Kellogg just capped an and-one layup by tripping over the TWC cameraman! Graceful, IMO.
(8:50, 2nd): ‘Cats expand the lead to eight, but Akron strikes back with a quick two. If the Zips lose, it will be because of their struggles at the charity stripe.
(8:02, 2nd): N’dour just picked up his fourth foul on a “questionable” call. Ohio leads 64-59 at the under 8:00 media timeout.
(6:33, 2nd): Mustache March is helping out McAdams right now. He just hit his second three. Akron’s cut the lead to two, 64-62.
(6:33, 2nd): Just over six to go and neither N’dour nor Kellogg are on the court. Someone needs to step up for Ohio while they’re out if they want to keep this lead.
(6:33, 2nd): Check that, Kellogg was just subbed in. Look for the offense to run through him.
(5:43, 2nd): Treadwell just got away with an obvious goaltend on D. Zips tied it up. Kellogg responds with a clutch three. Jon B next to me says, “Good shot!” He wanted me to include that. Shouts out to Jon B.
(4:18, 2nd): Tied up at 67. N’dour back in.
(3:22, 2nd): Treadwell at the line, tied at 67. he’s 3 for 9 at the line tonight.
(3:20, 2nd): he makes 1 of 2. Jon Smith gets the ball stolen from him. Quincey Diggs converts an and-one on the other end. Akron up, 71-67.
(2:54, 2nd): Akron is shooting 58 percent to Ohio’s 49.
(1:55, 2nd): Ohio turns it over a third consecutive time. Akron dunks, up 6.
(1:10, 2nd): Zips extend it to eight, 75-67. It’ll be hard for the Bobcats to pull this one out.
(50.3, 2nd): Kellogg battled to the hole for two, but Ohio left no one to defend the basket when the pressed. Easy two for Akron.
(46.3, 2nd): N’dour intentionally fouls out. Akron hits both. Kellogg answers with another two. He has 25 tonight in what may be his final game.
(35.2, 2nd): Treadwell hits 2. 80-73 Akron. Kellogg misses a three. This one seems to be all but over.
(15.9, 2nd): Akron leads while shooting just 18-32. Ohio is 7-9.
(9.3, 2nd): Christian takes out all of the seniors.
(FINAL): Akron wins 83-77, despite trailing for most of the game.
(FINAL): Akron shot 60 percent from the field. Hard to lose when you shoot like that. Back to Athens.
