Volleyball: Ohio dominates rival Miami, completes perfect MAC record

The Ohio Bobcats dominated the Miami RedHawks, 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-13) to finish a perfect 16-0 in the MAC regular season.

Ohio battled with the RedHawks in the first set, battling to an eight-all tie. Ohio would then rattle off a 15-3 run to take a 23-11 lead. Senior Kelly Lamberti finished off the set with a kill, which gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.

The rest of the game was just pure dominance from the Green and White. Ohio started the second half with a 7-1 lead and would extend its set lead to as much as 11 before Miami’s Olivia Rusek’s shot attempt went out of bounds, giving the Bobcats a 2-0 lead going into the intermission.

Ohio would not let the RedHawks force a fourth set. Coming out of the half, Ohio went on an early 10-3 run to go up 13-6 in the set. Miami wouldn’t chip into the lead at all as Kelly Lamberti’s kill ended the game for the Bobcats, giving them the win and the perfect record in MAC play.

Lamberti once again led the way for the Bobcats with 12 kills. Lamberti also was the only Bobcat to tally double-digit digs, finishing with 10.

Annie Reiswig led the RedHawks (19-9, 12-4 MAC) with nine kills.

“I’ve never had more chemistry with any other team I’ve ever been apart of,” senior middle blocker Hannah Burkle said.

“I was happy to finish out conference play, especially with an undefeated record,” Ohio coach Deane Webb said. “I’m so excited to see what this team can do in the tournament.”

Ohio (23-4, 16-0 MAC) has already clinched the No. 1 seed in the MAC Tournament and hopes to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season.
