As soon as Halloween comes to an end, everyone begins to get so eager to jump into the Christmas spirit. However, there is just one problem – Thanksgiving comes before Christmas.
Yes, Christmas is wonderful, but I believe it is important to remember that even though Thanksgiving does not have the same hype as Christmas, it is still an important holiday. It feels as if everyone I know has already started to buy Christmas gifts, put up Christmas decorations and is singing Christmas songs, despite the holiday still being over a month away. Instead, we should all take it easy and let the time pass on its own. While we wait for Christmas, we should take the time to enjoy Thanksgiving!
Here are a few reasons why Thanksgiving should never be skipped over:
#1: The FOOD
If you are like me, you are beyond sick of the food at college, and you’re just craving some good, home-cooked meals. Some of these include mashed potatoes, stuffing, bread and most importantly, turkey! My stomach rumbles just from thinking about it.
#2: Time for a Break
Thanksgiving is the first real break of the school year and helps everyone gather up enough energy to finish out the semester. After countless exams, papers and quizzes, every college student is due for break. It’s nice to get away from everything and enjoy time with family and friends to eat some great food.
#3: No Presents
Yes, everyone loves receiving and giving presents, but it can sometimes become extremely stressful. You want to find the perfect gift for each person in your life, but sometimes finding that isn’t easy and can cause extra holiday stress.
#4: Giving Thanks
It’s important to remember what you are thankful for. For example, I am thankful for my family and my friends. They help shape me into a better person, and I would be lost without them. We don’t tell the ones we love that we are thankful for them enough. Even though we should be doing this everyday, Thanksgiving is the perfect opportunity to tell them all how much they mean to us.
#5: The Family Time
Several of my family members live rather far away. Thanksgiving is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to go see their family and spend quality time while being reunited. My family is one of the most important aspects of my life, and I hope it is for you, as well.
As you can see, Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year. This holiday can sometimes be overlooked because of Christmas, but that should not be the case. Not only is it a time to eat as much mashed potatoes as possible, but Thanksgiving allows you to set away some time to be truly thankful.
