Ohio Volleyball returns home for league play after slow start

Last season, Ohio Volleyball lost eight games all season. So far in 2016, they have already reached that dubious total with a 4-8 mark through the first 12 games.

Ohio started their season by losing all three matchups in the Bobcat Invitational, winning just one set overall.

After a five-set loss at Marshall on August 30th dropped them to 0-4, Ohio bounced back, winning two of three games in the Black and Gold Invitational at Appalachian State.

Ohio has gone 2-3 since, dropping two of three contests at the Nike Invitational and splitting a pair of games at the Hokie Invitational.

With the tournaments over, Ohio returns home to open league play against Akron on Friday night at the Convocation Center.

Akron has began their season with a 5-7 record, recently going 2-1 in the West Virginia Invitational with victories over Dartmouth (9/16) and Winthrop (9/17).

Ohio has won 11 consecutive games against Akron, with their last loss to the Zips coming on October 1, 2010. Amazingly, Ohio is 10-0 against Akron, winning 30 of 32 total sets.

The Bobcats have won three consecutive MAC-openers, dating back to 2012.

In two seasons at the helm, head coach Deane Webb has an overall conference record of 29 wins and three losses.
