Ohio University’s 2016 Homecoming celebration kicks off on October 3rd with weeklong events hosted by students, alumni and community members.
The official schedule is posted on the Ohio University Homecoming website and begins with Tuesday’s “Pack the Pantry” event, a program cosponsored by the OU Alumni Board and Sorority & Fraternity Life. The event will consist of a competition between sororities and fraternities to collect the most canned goods and spare change outside of the Konneker Alumni Center from 11 a.m to 2 p.m.
Additionally, Tuesday begins the “Paint the Town Green” event, in which local businesses and administrative offices are encouraged to decorate work spaces with OU’s green and white colors. Prizes will be awarded to the most spirited participants.
Wednesday will hold the world’s largest cake walk, hosted by BobcaThon at 5:30 p.m. The first 500 participants can walk, and a pre-party event will take place on the 1st floor Baker parking lot an hour before, where cake will be available for all.
Beginning on Thursday at 10 a.m. Alden Library will host the Ohio University Archives Annual Homecoming display, featuring 20 tables full of information about OU’s eclectic history. The display will be available for viewing each morning from Thursday until Saturday, ending each night at 7 p.m.
The much awaited “Yell like Hell Pep Rally” will also take place Thursday evening in the Baker Center parking lot. Featuring the Singing Men of Ohio and the Marching 110, the event will be in preparation for Saturday’s football game against Bowling Green University.
Friday will host a collection of Alumni events, including the Alumni Associations Annual Gala, Historical Hayrides at The Ridges and an opportunity for former OU students to revisit their residence halls.
On Saturday the festivities begin early, with an Alumni breakfast at 8 a.m. in Grover Center, leading into the Homecoming Parade through Court Street and Union Street at 10 a.m. At 11:30 a.m. there will be a “Bobcat Bash” tailgate at the Pepsi Tailgate Park, and at 2 p.m. the football game will begin at Peden Stadium.
The weekend’s events will end with an Alumni Jazz performance at Casa Nueva at 10 p.m.
