Halloween Countdown with Molly Weir: Day 19

Oct. 19

Can you believe there are only twelve days until Halloween? Still quite not ready? A perfect way to get into the spooky spirit is with a haunted story about our very own Ohio University.

Ohio University, built in 1804 is supposedly the most haunted campus in the world. The most famous dorm hall is Wilson Hall located on West Green. The story of the hauntings begin with the location of the building. It is apparently located in the middle of a pentagram consisting of five cemeteries nearby. For those unaware, the pentagram is an occult symbol for power and magic. The pentagram opens up paranormal activity and the center is very important.

There is more than just a pentagram in Wilson Hall, it is also said to be the home to a ghost that died in the 1970s in room 428. There have been reports from people who have lived in this room that you can hear strange sounds and footsteps. Some have even reported seeing objects moving on their own. Due to these accusations, the room is no longer open to new students to live in. This is the only university room in the world that has been sealed and closed to the public.

Another legend surrounding Wilson Hall is that it was built on the grounds of an Indian cemetery and the spirits are haunting the building. Experts who specialize in the studies of spirits have claimed that the layout of the area, mountains and valleys could be help in the psychic energy. Others have found that Wilson Hall is built on the same location as an early cemetery of the Athens Mental Institute.

Whether you choose to believe these stories or not, it is still a popular story all students at Ohio University hear. Until next time, have a spooky day!
